Cone Beam CT Imaging
Cone-beam computed tomography systems are a variation of traditional systems and are often used by dental professionals. Cone Beam CT machines use specialized X-ray equipment to take an X-ray while having a cone-shaped beam scan around the patient. It is a noninvasive procedure used when regular dental or facial x-rays are insufficient. It produces three-dimensional images of teeth, mouth, jaw, neck, ears, nose and throat, including soft tissues, nerve pathways and bone in a single scan. A Cone Beam CT provides even more detailed views than a traditional CT and uses less X-ray radiation, making it not only more useful for the dentist but also safer for the patient.
The resulting imaging requires special training to interpret and report the results accurately.
